Most snack bars are considered nutritious but beyond that they are really filling ready to eat almost any where, like school, at work, subways and at home. And they are really filing, did i say that before? Well, i can tell you one or two bars can make you skip a meal and depending on what they are made with, they can be all you need for that meal time.
Sweet And Salty
Have you tried ones with peanuts and peanut butter?
If you are not allergic to peanut, i would say give it a try. really delicious, could be crunchy or chewy and it's really easy to make, all you need are:
Recipe:
2 cups honey roasted peanut
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. peanut butter (optional but make it better)
1/2 tsp. salt (or non, considering your butter and peanut might have already)
1 tbsp. vanilla
Variety Bar
Do you eat raw oat? I have not tried it before. Because I'm not sure the effect or even if it should be considered, so i don eat it. when i need to make any kind of food with oat i make sure to either cook steam or toast it first. so making this snack bar, i toasted first. if you are like me who is not huge on raw food, just toast it first. It doesn't take long, just pop it in the oven for 5 minutes or so, it gets toasted and brown quickly, plus it brings some crunchiness to the situation
This one here has mixture of different things like peanuts, oat, crushed cereal, dried fruits.
Has pretty much same recipe as above but with extra
Recipe:
1 cups honey roasted peanut (crushed)
1 cup roasted old fashioned oat
1 cup chex cereal (crushed)
1/3 cup raisin
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
4 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. peanut butter (optional but make it better)
1/2 tsp. salt (or non, considering your butter and peanut might have already)
1 tbsp. vanilla
Direction
-measure out your peanut and set it aside (better crushed a little. I didn't crush this one)
-Grease or butter the inside of your baking pan or bowl or aluminum tray and set aside
- on a low, in a cooking pan or pot, bring your sugar water and butter to melt. And continue to cook without stirring (wiggle pot instead) till mixture is all melted droopy and brownish.
- add your salt, vanilla and peanut butter and stir well.
- stir in your crushed peanuts and mix well
-bring out from heat and pour into your greased pan and press down with hand or hard object till it's really hard and tight
- cover it Refrigerate or sit to cool
- Then, bring it out of the pan and cut to whatever shape and sizes you want.
Tips
- sugar ( like half cup or more. I try not to use more ) this is What gels the nuts and all your ingredients together
-water you need this to steam the sugar with until it's all melted, bubbly, and brownish. You might need to add few more spoons as it steams on a very low stream. You don't want the bars to be very hard to chew.
-Flavor (totally optional, but I love to add some. Mostly vanilla)
-if you need more liquid, corn syrup is good option.
- salt ( just a pinch. But also put into consideration the level of salt you already have in the peanut.
